CHECK FIRST! Many home improvement projects require a permit.
Planning on doing some home improvement projects? Before starting check with this department to learn if a permit is required. A permit is usually required for but not limited to:
- New buildings
- Additions
- Residential work (fences, garages, water heaters, concrete, pools, re-roof, windows, siding, etc.)
- Renovations
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing systems
- HVAC (heating & air-conditioning, ventilation)
Downloadable Permits and Applications are now available online. Please be sure to complete the entire application and be sure it is signed and dated.
A permit fee is collected to cover the cost of the application, the review and the inspection process. Once a permit is issued work can begin
Homeowners: When dealing with a contractor, it is in your best interest to have them pull permits and arrange for the proper inspections. The permit fees are the same for contractor or homeowner. We strongly recommend that when you hire someone to do work for you, you ask them to provide you a copy of the permit
The department hours of business are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Twenty-four (24) hour voice mail is available for after hour requests to schedule inspections and to leave messages (If you are calling after hours to schedule an inspection, please leave detailed permit information and we will call you back with an inspection date).
The City of Woodhaven is under the 2015 State of Michigan Residential & Building Codes. The 2015 State of Michigan Mechanical Codes, the 2017 NEC & Michigan Part 8 Electrical Rules & the 2015 Plumbing Codes. If in doubt of what codes are in effect, please phone this office.
